Day 14

In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'm not sure what's in store for fandom in general, nor do I feel qualifed to answer. I hope to see an end to negativity running rife in some fandoms at present and a return to a more inclusive and welcoming fandoms. I'd like to see small fandoms find a place to florish and dying fandoms to be nurtured back to life.

For my fandoms

Buffy the vampire slayer

I think the oldist is actually the most thriving. To be fair I've been a fan, but not in fandom until very recently, but it seems thriving there are active message boards and coms, and new fics on a daily basis I don't see this slowing down. I'm not sure how the Buffy reboot will effect things but I'm sure there is enough room for fans of both the original series and the reboot to exist side by side. I'm not worried I dont think the buffy fandom is going anywhere.

Sherlock (BBC)

I fear the momentum for this fandom is winding down, and while there's been no offical word on the end of the show I don't think its coming back which will inevitably lead to a decline in interest . Things are far from over in this fandom though and it's not going anywhere for a while yet, but it is quieter and will get quieter yet. In good news though while intrest in BBC Sherlock  may peter out, The Sherlock fandom as a whole will probally out last time itself in some form or another.

Andromeda

This fandom seems all but dead, but I do have myself to blame for  this. I had a com, it was small but lively , but I was a bad mod,  I never dedicated enough time to it, then let it slip away compleatly. On the plus side the last new fic posted on A03 was just 2 days ago so there is a glimer of life, I could fan the flames and kick it up a gear.

Day 13

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I kind of did this on day 12.

I set myself a challange to make larger graphics than my usal icons. I want streach myself and branch into making banners and wallpapers. I'm going to set myself a goal of at least 1 creative fandom post a month. While this may not sound much, for me it'll be a challage.

I've also set myself I goal of learing to paint this year. I've made a start and I wasn't expecting to be great overnight but honestly  my first picture looks like it was done by an under 5, not kidding,  which is some what disiponting.

I'm going to go back and do day's 9&10 later, today you get days 11& 12 before I get too far behind.

Day 11

In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I mostly make icons, my process if you could call it that is to cap and episode of a show, then turn as many caps as I can into usable  100x100 px crops and do very basic prep usally just brighten and sharpen and maybe minor colour corrections  to make icon bases out of all those caps.

Once I've made all my bases, only then will start turning them into actual icons. I always post icons in epidode batches,never random episodes or fandoms  enless it's for a challange.

I almost never write fic now but my process is for that is 100% winging it. I literally open up a blank document with no plan other than to write something and just let the muse go where it wants. 0 planning takes place, and i've no idea what the fic is even  goging to be about utill i've started writting.

Day 12

In your own space, create your own challenge. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'm challenging myself to make some larger graphics than icons this year, I want to make banners and wallpapers too. I've also set myself I goal of leaning to paint.

Day 8
In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Here's a really old Andromeda fic from 2003 that I was quite proud of a the time - Please dont let this be

Summerry - The crew are kidnaped only Harper escapes capture, can Harper save the day?  Word count: 15,829

Here's a recent batch of Sherlock icons and here is a recent batch of BtVS icons

Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you. (The recs from Day 2 might be a good place to start.) Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

All in all I've not done badly for this challage when I thought I'd probally end up skippping it!  My friend came round to vist and brought  season 1 of The Orville which I'm really enjoying. I've  also brought a DVD 'Alice' (an alice in wonderland story)  based of a a rec from a prior challange.

 For reason unknown to even myself, on a whim I decided to lean how to paint and brought a set of watercolours. At first I thought this would be an out of fandom activity as I hightly doubut i'll ever be up to painting people  but I'm now thinking I could make simple watercolour washes and easy flowers to scan and use as backdrops for wallpapers and icons.

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

My wish list is simple I would like:

A  BtVS wallpaper  prefured resolution 1920x1080-  Spuffy or just Spike would be my favourite but really anything in the verse would be good.

A Spuffy hurt comfort fic

And for BBC Sherlock - Moriarty graphics of any size or kind

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Fandom 10 in 30

Iconthat

I love the above as both are a low pressure ways to keep me motivated and partisipating in fandom, and I can post icons for any fandom.

Seasonal spuffy

I'm new to this community  but I've had fun so far and look foward to the next round plus it encourages me to comment and give feeback for all the partisipants  which I'm not that good at.

Day 3

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favourite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'll share a couple of my favourite  Star Trek: Voyager  episodes

Before and After
 (season 3, episode 21)

Description

A life-extension treatment puts Kes out of temporal sync, allowing her to see the past and the future.

Year of Hell Part 1&2
 (season 4, episode 8&9)

Description

The Voyager tangles with the Krenim whose ultimate weapon-ship manipulates time to erase their enemies

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why I love these episodes is becase they are both explore time travel,  which I love, in interesting ways
Before and After  is heavely character focoused (and I love character driven episodes) and shows Kes living her life life backwards jumping to ealier and ealier points in her life.
The year of hell has a single Krenim ship trying to completely wipe their enemies from  existence it'self in order to rebuild their empire when the Krenim ruled. It's a fascinating take on time travel and the butterfly effect, and  has great character moments both for the voyager crew and the crew of the Krenim ship.  I love that in the end we find the captin of the Krenim ship was so hell bent on changing history, not so much to restore the empire,  but to find a timeline in which his wife didn't die.
I'd also like to add a special mention to
'A Symmetry of Imperfection' Andromeda episode (season 4, episode 19) This is another Charater driven  and emotional episode that explores AI and emotions.
  Rommie the Ships Avator is cut off fom her Ship self (the core mainframe AI) when she is jugged by the core mainframe  to have become' too emotional'.  Of couse this happens when the ship is in danger  but that turns out to be more the B plot. The core story is emotional, and  revolves around  my favouite character  Rommie, it explores the emotional side AI's and how our memories make us who we are, plus the whole episode   is visually very pretty.
